Apollo Investment Corporation (Apollo Investment) is a closed-end, non-diversified management investment company that has filed an election to be treated as a business development company (BDC) under the Investment Company Act of 1940 (the 1940 Act). The investment objective of the Company is to generate both current income and capital appreciation through debt and equity investments. Apollo Investment invests primarily in middle-market companies in the form of mezzanine and senior secured loans, as well as by making direct equity investments in companies. The Company also invests in the securities of public companies, as well as public companies whose securities are thinly traded. During the fiscal year ended March 31, 2008 (fiscal 2008), the Company invested $1.8 billion across 27 new and existing portfolio companies. The investment advisor of the Company is Apollo Investment Management (AIM).
